Volunteer Opportunities

The Community Action Angel Program provides volunteers the opportunity to give of their time and talents to benefit the programs and services provided by CEO for the greater benefit of the community. Volunteers work together with CEO to:

Enhance the quality of services provided to CEO customers.
Provide support to agency staff.
Improve the agency's image and public relations in the community.
Educate the public about what we do and why we do it.
Cultivate active friends and advocates as a support base in the community for the agency and for the people it serves.
Help raise funds or equivalent in-kind resources in support of our mission and goals.

A variety of volunteer opportunities are available throughout the agency. If you are interested in a position, please complete the volunteer application packet prior to your interview. Below is a partial listing of our volunteer opportunities:

Administrative - Assist program and administration staff with general office support including answering phones, filing, data entry, etc.
Fundraising – Assist in current agency fundraisers, or organize your own to benefit to agency and any of its many programs.
Special Events - Assist the agency’s Director of Communications and Development in all facets of fundraising and special event planning. Activities include: database management, appeal distribution, solicitation of donations, event day setup, etc.
Program Support - Work within a program of interest, providing assistance to program staff and performing assistive functions to support improve the overall functioning of the program. See previous list of programs for potential placements.
Seasonal - CEO has several opportunities for seasonal volunteers throughout the year. Examples include holiday season Toys for Tots, Coats for Kids, food baskets, tax preparation, etc.
Mentoring - Work with young people through any of our several youth programs and provide caring support.
Special Projects - Projects include food drives, can drives, whatever inspires you!

VITA Program Needs Volunteers!

VITA is a program that assists low- to moderate-income families with preparing their income tax forms. The average taxpayer pays between $50 and $200 to have a basic tax return prepared by a private firm. The IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides a free alternative. Do you have a few hours a week to help people with their taxes? You do not have to have previous tax experience to help, we need Greeters or we offer training if you are interested in volunteering as a tax preparer. preparation work.

What do VITA volunteers do?

We need volunteers from the end of January through April 15th for the following positions:

Greeter—Greet clients and ensure they have the necessary paperwork for tax preparation.
Tax Preparer—IRS Certified VITA volunteers provide basic tax preparation assistance for low to moderate income taxpayers. The IRS gives free training in tax preparation to volunteers.

As a VITA Volunteer, you:

Get free training to add to your resume
Gain experience and confidence for future employment
Get information to help with your own tax return
Help families save money
Help bring millions of dollars back to the Capital Region for reinvestment in the local economy
