The Commission on Economic Opportunity to Distribute
One Hundred Food Baskets and Coats to Families in Need
NOVEMBER 15, 2007-- TROY, NY - - The
Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) is once again sponsoring food
baskets for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The program, coordinated through
CEO's food pantry, will provide baskets to 100 families in need in
Rensselaer County. Distribution of the baskets, all of which were
reserved in advance, will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday,
November 19th through 21st at the food pantry located in the Joseph L
Bruno Family Resource Center.
Also participating in the distribution of the baskets are individuals
from "Just Say Yes to Fruits" and Cornell Cooperative Extension of
Rensselaer County's Eat Smart New York Program. Together with CEO, they
will provide details on food preparation and nutrition. On Monday,
November 19th the organizations will provide information and help with
the distribution, joined by a group of Troy High School student
volunteers.
In addition to the food baskets, CEO also invites all if its Head Start
families to a Harvest Luncheon where they will kick off the annual
"Coats for Kids" program. In the past, Commission on Economic
Opportunity has teamed with individuals and organizations to collect
and distribute winter coats for children in the Head Start and Early
Head Start programs. This year the "Coats for Kids" program is
being sponsored by various individuals and businesses, but CEO is still
in need of additional sponsors in order to provide a coat and a toy for
all of their children in the Head Start and Early Head Start
programs.
If you would like more information or you would like to make a donation
towards CEO's coat and toy drive or food pantry, please contact Nancy
