COATS AND TOYS FOR ALL OF OUR KIDS IN
HEAD START
December 2007—
As in the past, once again we were able to
provide a coat and toy for the more than 500 children in our Head Start
program. This is due to the generosity of many individuals and
organizations, such as Capital Communications Federal Credit Union,
Rensselaer County's Unified Family Services, Industrial Development
Agency, Star and Strand, and ValueOptions. Lodges in downtown
Albany provided the coats at a very reasonable price, making it all
possible.
October 25th, 2007—
This year's fundraiser was a great success! More than 15 of the best
Troy food establishments participated in the A Time for Tasting portion
of the event, providing great food. The Season for Helping
auction offered more than 40 silent auction items and many live auction
items. And, we were all entertained by the Neil Brown Jazz
Quartet. The event raised more than $36,000 to be used for our
alternative education programs for at-risk youth.
Check out our photos of this
year's event and also of
pre-event preparation! Many volunteers and staff participated by
carving jack-o-lanterns that were used as centerpieces on the
tables. Included in some of these pictures are Girl Scouts from
Troop 1708, based in Averil Park. Thank you to the many
volunteers, auction committee members and all that supported our event!
June 8, 2007 — CEO Staff Day was attended by
nearly 90 percent of the staff and all participated in the interactive
presentation "Positive Outcomes when Dealing With Difficult People",
presented by Brenda McGuire of McGuire Consulting. This presentation
was an interesting examination of how people develop their "imprints"
and how these "imprints" impact the way in which they deal with others.
The group was divided into age-related smaller groups consisting of a
Radio Group, Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y and much
discussion ensued about the difficulties of "generational interaction
in the workplace".
The afternoon program was centered around celebrating
and recognizing many different employee milestones. Included in the
afternoon celebration were the following:
Karen Gordon, was recognized for her 25th anniversary
as Executive Director;
Many staff members were recognized for their five, ten,
fifteen, twenty-five and thirty years of service with CEO.
Three employees were congratulated for completing
education degrees during the year, and Ten "CEO Stars" were recognized
for exemplary performance during the year.
Karen's annual remarks were inspirational and
informative. We all look forward to Staff Day 2008!
