Fathers and Father Figures Face Off for CEO's Fifth Annual Chili Cook-Off

Saturday, January 23 2010 — Troy, NY

Michael Kolkhorst , father figure for Madilynn Franco, age 2, work together to make chili at the Chili Cook-Off, part of CEO's Head Start Fatherhood Initiative Program.  This program provides opportunities for father and father figures to spend quality time with their children and encourages men to be more involved in their child’s life.


 

Santa brings toys and smiles to many children at CEO's Head Start Program

Tuesday, December 15 2009 — Troy, NY

Santa delivers toys to the children at the Commission on Economic Opportunity's Family Resource Center in Troy.  Santa's helpers include (l to r) Jean Brooks, Rensselaer County Youth Outreach Coordinator and Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen Jimino.  The young man receiving the present from Santa is Kody Bayash.  All  of the toys for the Head Start and Early Head Start programs at the 5th Ave and Old 6th Ave sites were donated by Rensselaer County IDA and Unified Services. 


 

Foster Grandparents Enjoy a Holiday Party at the new Hilton Garden Hotel

Nearly 100 Seniors from CEO's Foster Grandparents Program were recognized and thanked for all of their volunteer hours with the children

Thursday, December 3 2009 — Troy, NY

On Thursday, December 3rd nearly 100 Foster Grandparents enjoyed a noontime lunch that was given in their honor and to thank them for the many hours of volunteer time that they give to help the children on the Capital District.  CEO's Foster Grandparent Program provides more than 40 sites throughout a seven county area with volunteers that help children with special needs. NATIONAL GRID PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR YOUTHBUILD PROGRAM

Local Utility Presents Check in Support of Youth Program and Energy Efficiency Education

Thursday, October 29 2009 — Troy, NY

National Grid announced its support of the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO) today with a donation to the CEO’s YouthBuild program aimed at fostering the development of “at risk” youth.

 

National Grid is supporting the program with a donation of $4,000 to be used to help purchase the building supplies needed to build a new “green” home as part of program in Lansingburgh, NY.

CSBG ARRA Funds Helping to Build Lives and Homes

Tuesday, August 25 2009 — TROY, NY

Troy, N.Y. – The Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO)’s Executive Director Karen Gordon was joined by many public officials, neighbors and prospective YouthBuild students to assist in breaking ground for the next YouthBuild home to be built by the YouthBuild students. The event was held on Tuesday, August 25th at 10:00AM at 722 Fourth Ave. in Troy (Lansingburgh). Community Action Day and Spring Fling Festivities

Customers and Community Members honored by CEO

Friday, May 15 2009 — Troy, NY

CEO will held its annual Community Action Day festivities on Friday, May 15th this year.  The luncheon was held at Franklin Terrace in Tro and the Spring Fling Community Celebration was held at Stepping Stones I, where a crowd of more than 500 gathered to enjoy food, music, prizes and lots of fun.  This year’s Spring Fling also served as a kick-off event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Stepping Stones One opening its doors as a Family Resource and Head Start Center.  Tatianah  Ziegler (below), age 4, poses with the t-shirt that was worn by all in celebration of Stepping Stones I's 25th Anniversary Celebration.  Tatianah created the artwork that was used for the SSI's 20th Anniversary logo.

CEO's Foster Grandparents' Holiday Celebration, Better Late Than Never

Over 100 Seniors are thanked by CEO for their time, energy and commitment

Marge Sweet (l) and Alice Shiland (r), below, enjoy each others company at the Foster Grandparents Luncheon on Thursday, January 22.  Over 100 foster grandparents gathered for a belated holiday luncheon at Franklin Terrace in Troy that had to be rescheduled dut to inclement weather last December.  CEO thanked the seniors for their time, energy and commitment to the programs and the many children they serve throughout the seven county area.
