CEO'S HOUSING REHABILITATION PROGRAM HELPS
ELDERLY HOMEOWNERS STAY IN HOME
Rensselaer County Executive Jimino Visits Eagle Bridge Home
November 15, 2007--TROY, NY – – On Thursday,
November 15, Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen Jimino visited the
home of an elderly Eagle Bridge resident who was able to remain in her
home thanks to improvements made under the Commission on Economic
Opportunity’s (CEO’s) County Wide Rural Housing Rehabilitation Program.
“It is truly wonderful to see this program in action,” said Kathy
Jimino. “Thanks to the funding provided by the State Office for
Small Cities and our partnership with CEO homeowners that might have
been forced to leave their homes due to increasing repair or
maintenance costs are able to receive the help they need to keep their
homes. This program is an important part of supporting our rural
communities”
CEO’s County Wide Rural Housing Rehabilitation Program promotes
community revitalization and economic development through increasing
home ownership, and helps homeowners make vitally needed repairs or
improvements necessary to allow them to remain in their homes.
The program is funded through a $300,000 Community Block Development
Grant (CBDG) awarded to Rensselaer County through the State Office for
Small Cities (OFSC). The County then subcontracts with CEO to
administer and coordinate the program.
Karen E. Gordon, Executive Director of CEO, noted: “This funding has
been an integral part of us providing the necessary services to those
residents who want to stay in their homes, but do not have the means to
maintain them and keep them up to safety code. We are thrilled to
be able to have the funding to assist these residents.”
