Head Start and Early Head Start

CEO's Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide economically disadvantaged children and families with comprehensive child development services in order to help preschoolers develop the early reading and math skills they need to be successful in school.

Early Head Start offers parents an opportunity for their child to participate in a program designed especially for the very young, ages 6 week to 3 years. The children are assessed with the Early Screening Inventory (ESI) at regular landmarks to monitor each child's holistic development.

Head Start  provides child development services to children ages 3-5 years. The program works with each child based on their social and emotional skills, language skills and physical skills. Parents are involved in all aspects of the program through center-based committees and The Head Start Policy Council.

These services are provided to income eligible families in Rensselaer County.

Babies in Waiting Program - is part of the Early Head Start programming. Services are available which include pre-natal and childbirth classes, family development and nurse consultations. This program assists customers with the continuity of services through their pregnancy up to and including the enrollment of the child into an infant classroom.

Fatherhood Initiative - is a program developed to foster an increase in father/male involvement in the Head Start/Early Head Start program. The program encourages fathers to be more aware of and involved in their child's life and education.

A Little Support Goes a Long Way
A Little Support Goes a Long Way
CEO’s Early Head Start program gave Kim the extra support she needed to begin creating a better life for her family. By the time Kim was in her mid-teens, she had been forced to deal with the death of a parent and abuse from people who should have been there to support her.   These tragedies did not stop Kim from giving up on her dreams and aspirations, and she insisted on persevering despite these challenges.

When Kim’s son was placed into CEO’s Head Start program for early intervention, Kim enrolled in Hudson Valley Community College’s GED program, which she is scheduled to complete this summer, a first step in pursuing a career in the medical field.  Kim’s children are her primary motivation, keeping her focused so that one day she can accomplish her goals of being a successful and independent mother, student, and professional.
