Addressing the Childhood Obesity Epidemic
Addressing the Childhood Obesity Epidemic

Communities for Health Living (CHL) is a collaborative project between the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO),the SUNY Albany School of Public Health, parents of children enrolled in CEO’s Head Start program, and community organizations.

CHL was formed to develop, implement and evaluate a child wellness program for Head Start families in Rensselaer County to address the epidemic of childhood obesity, which has been directly linked to greater lifelong health conditions, such as diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

The primary intent of the CHL is to develop a culturally sensitive and sustainable program that maintains families as a central focus recognizes the daily realities of low income families, and appreciates the expertise of parents as providers and care givers.
