Assistant Center Manager (Stepping Stones I)

Title: Assistant Center Manager (Head Start)
Location: Lansingburgh, New York
Salary: $656.25 / week

Responsibilities: This position responsible to assist with the over all center operations including maintaining Head Start enrollment, ensuring that classroom ratios are maintained and that all OCFS and Head Start rules and regulations are followed. Will be responsible to assist with supervising child care staff including classroom observations, performance evaluations, disciplinary measures and staff time sheets.
Qualifications: A minimum of an AAS in Early Childhood Education or related field, one year of teaching experience and 1 year of management experience. Preferred qualifications: BS in Early Childhood Education or related field, in addition to the qualifications listed above and work history in a Head Start program.

Cook

Title: Cook
Location: Nassau / Schodack, New York

Responsibilities: Responsible for preparing high quality food for Childcare Center with 5 classrooms;
breakfast, snack and lunch. Will also be responsible for ordering of food supplies, and stocking and cleaning of kitchen. Position is 30 hours per week.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent, at least 1 year experience with food preparation in a full service kitchen. Ability to read, write and complete basic math as well as computer literacy. Ability to obtain ServSafe certification. Preferred qualifications: Degree or certification in Culinary Arts, ServSafe certification, specific experience in child food service preparation, prior catering experience.

Family Advocate (Stepping Stones I)

Title: Family Advocate (SSI)

Responsibilities: The candidate will act as an advocate for Early Head Start and Head Start families whose children are presently enrolled in the childcare program. Will be responsible for assisting with development of goal plans for participating families, for promoting self-sufficiency and for working with the families to help them succeed in their goals. Candidate must also have the ability to form therapeutic relationships with children and families from diverse ethnic, racial and cultural backgrounds and demonstrated skills in communication, as well as ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a multi-service agency. Visiting families in their homes or a mutually agreed upon location will be part of the job responsibilities as well.
Qualifications: Associates Degree in Human Services or related field is required along with a valid, clean driver’s license. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in human service field plus prior experience working with families in an advocacy role.

Teacher Assistants

Responsibilities: Be knowledgeable of developmentally appropriate practices and all Head Start Performance Standards and Office of Children and Family Services day care regulations and implement those that relate to the position. Promote children’s development and learning through the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum. Use age appropriate and positive guidance strategies to teach, encourage, and redirect inappropriate classroom behavior. Build positive relationships with families through positive and professional communication, creating a classroom environment that is welcoming, respects individual differences and diversity, and encourage parent participation in the classroom.
Build and maintain collaborative and professional relationships with co-teacher and staff. Collaborate and positively communicate with staff in order to ensure effective communication.
Qualifications:

Universal Pre-Kindergarten Certified Teachers

The Commission on Economic Opportunity is seeking several candidates for open Universal Pre-Kindergarten Teacher positions. Open positions are located in Troy (Full time) and Schaghticoke (Part time). Both classrooms follow a 10 month classroom schedule and will have a summer layoff period.
Responsibilities: To plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program for preschool children, meeting UPK school district requirements while working collaboratively with teacher assistant, center staff, and service providers.
Qualifications: New York State Pre-K teaching certification is required and previous experience working with children.

Behavioral Specialist

Foster Grandparent Program Liaison

The Commission on Economic Opportunity is seeking an Accountant to work within our fiscal department. Ideal candidate should be detail oriented, possess strong analytical skills and be able to multi-task.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to assist Fiscal Director with daily operations of department which include in-house payroll, budget monitoring, preparation of financial reports, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Should possess strong knowledge of accounting principles and have effective communication skills. Familiarity with grants preferred but not required. Must learn guidelines and requirements of various funding sources and ensure that they are adhered to.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in accounting/finance or related field and experience in an accounting role with specific analysis and budget monitoring experience required. Prior non-profit accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities: This position provides custodial support to CEO’s Stepping Stones II daycare site. This position will be a temporary position consisting of approximately 6 weeks. This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the daycare facility by performing duties including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming carpets, and cleaning and restocking restrooms.
Qualifications: A clean, valid New York State Driver’s License and prior custodial experience required. High school equivalency preferred. The chosen candidate will be required to complete standard background clearances, which include fingerprints, New York State Child Abuse clearances, and a physical and TB Test.

Occupational Skills Trainer / Construction Site Assistant (YouthBuild Program)

The Commission on Economic Opportunity is seeking a Occupational Skills trainer / Construction site Assistant , to work in their YouthBuild program.  YouthBuild provides at risk youth ages 16-24 the opportunity to obtain their GED, learn job skills and serve their community by building affordable housing.
Responsibilities:  Candidate will assist the Building Trades Manager with the development of a construction plan and schedule, will work with students teaching basic construction skills, and will work with students on identifying areas of interest with regard to future employment. Also responsible to establish ways in which students will obtain job skills in those career paths identified.
Qualifications:  Knowledge of construction skills, valid driver’s license and High School Diploma required. Experience working with at-risk teens and case management is preferred. Prior building trades experience a plus.

Food Pantry Assistant

Responsibilities: The Commission on Economic Opportunity, a not for profit agency, is seeking a Food Pantry Assistant. Position is 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Candidate will be working in a fast paced, high volume local food pantry. Will be responsible to meet with customers to evaluate their needs, enter customer data information into database for tracking purposes, collecting and distributing food to customers, inventory, ordering, and stocking and rotating food on shelves when deliveries are made. Based on customers needs, will makes referrals to other programs and agencies. Works closely with staff and volunteers, directing their activities.
Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED, clean valid drivers license, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, previous customer service and excellent interpersonal skills, and proficient computer skills (Microsoft Excel).
