Early Childhood Job Fair – Wednesday, 7/23, 9:00am – 1:00pm

The Commission on Economic Opportunity for the Greater Capital Region is a not for profit community action agency and a leading provider of Head Start early education programs. We will be having a job fair at our Joseph L. Bruno building, located at 2328 5th Ave., Troy, 12180. Childcare representatives will be on hand to conduct immediate interviews for positions located in various Rensselaer county locations, for our Fall 2014 programs. To be considered for an immediate interview, bring a resume, a copy of your highest degree and / or transcripts (if available) and also be prepared to complete an employment application.  Positions available operate on either a 10 month or 12 month cycle:
Teachers for Head Start, Early Head Start, and UPK

Our Head Start, Early Head Start, and UPK teaching positions are responsible to plan and implement age appropriate curriculum and activities, work collaboratively with the Teacher Assistant, center staff, and service providers, and follow Head Start performance standards. The required qualifications are:

TEACHER – EARLY HEAD START (Infants and Toddlers) REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Diploma plus an Infant/Toddler CDA, and prior experience with Infant and/or Toddler aged children
OR: AAS in Early Childhood Education and one-year experience working in with Infants and Toddlers.
OR: A bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and one-year experience working in with Infants and Toddlers.

TEACHER – HEAD START (Pre-school) REQUIREMENTS:
An associate, bachelor’s or advanced degree in early childhood education with prior experience teaching preschool-age children.
OR: An associate degree in a field related to early childhood education and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool-age children
OR: A bachelor’s or advanced degree in any field and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool-age children.

TEACHER – Universal Pre-Kindergarten REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a New York State certification in Birth thru 2nd Grade, or Pre-K thru 6.

Teacher Assistants, Classroom Floaters, and Substitute Teacher Assistants

These positions assist teaching staff with all aspects of classroom management. Requirements: High school Diploma (or equivalent) and the ability to obtain a CDA credential, and previous experience working with young children. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Stepping Stones II Daycare – Teacher Assistants

Teacher Assistants in our Stepping Stones II Daycare, work for 12 months of the year and assist classroom Teachers with all aspects of classroom management. Requirement: High school Diploma (or equivalent), plus prior experience working with young children. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Pre-Employment Requirements: Please note that applicants for most positions will be required to complete standard background clearances before their hire date, which may include fingerprints, New York State Child Abuse clearances, NYS motor vehicle report, a physical, TB Test, and a pre-employment drug screen.

Behavioral Specialist

Title: Behavioral Specialist
Location: Troy, NY
Division: Early Childhood Services

Responsibilities: Position will begin September 2014. Candidate will assist in supporting children with challenging behavior in a classroom setting. Will also support Early Childhood staff in developing and implementing behavior plans, will participate in case conferences, team meetings and conducting child observations as needed.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (Psychology, Special Education or Elementary Education). Prior experience developing and implementing behavior plans and working with preschool children with challenging behaviors. Must possess a valid NYS driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education or a related field (Psychology, Early Childhood /Special Education, Elementary). Prior experience developing and implementing behavior plans and working with preschool children with challenging behaviors.

Foster Grandparent Program Liaison

Title: Foster Grandparent Program Liaison

Responsibilities:  This entry level position will be responsible to recruit eligible senior population for placement in childcare centers for volunteer purposes.  Will be responsible to interview, assess, and determine proper placement of individuals.  Will be responsible for training activities, and bi-weekly time sheet gathering and review.  Acts as liaison between childcare site supervisors and volunteer. Position is 35 hours per week.
Qualifications:  High School diploma and experience in the Human Services field. Extensive experience working with the senior population required. Valid New York State driver’s license and daily access to a personal vehicle required. Excellent attention to detail and communication skills, plus strong computer skills required.

Teacher UPK – Substitute

Responsibilities: The Commission on Economic Opportunity is seeking a New York State certified teaching candidate to act as a substitute teacher in a Universal Pre-Kindergarten Head Start classroom. Candidate will be responsible to plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program for preschool children, meeting Head Start requirements while working collaboratively with the teacher assistant, school district staff, and service providers. This position will begin in September, and be located at our Troy Family Resource Center. Work schedule Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4pm, 35 hours per week.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with a New York State certification in Birth thru 2nd Grade, or Pre-K thru 6.

Accountant

Title: Accountant

The Commission on Economic Opportunity is seeking an Accountant to work within our fiscal department. Ideal candidate should be detail oriented, possess strong analytical skills and be able to multi-task.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to assist Fiscal Director with daily operations of department which include in-house payroll, budget monitoring, preparation of financial reports, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Should possess strong knowledge of accounting principles and have effective communication skills. Familiarity with grants preferred but not required. Must learn guidelines and requirements of various funding sources and ensure that they are adhered to.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in accounting/finance or related field and experience in an accounting role with specific analysis and budget monitoring experience required. Prior non-profit accounting experience preferred.

Clerical Assistant (WIC Vendor Management Program)

Title:   Clerical Assistant – Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Vendor Management program

Responsibilities:   To provide clerical support and office management assistance for the WIC Vendor Consolidation Project. Responsibilities included but not limited to, file maintenance; review applications from vendors, monitor application process, maintain database (WICSIS); screen incoming phone calls/mail, assist with project correspondence, coordinate vendor training activities, prepare training materials including Powerpoint presentation.  This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications:   High School diploma or equivalent with experience working in an office setting. Excellent organizational and customer service skills a must.  Knowledge of Microsoft office programs (Excel, Powerpoint, Word) required. Bi-lingual a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:   In addition to above; Associates Degree in Business or Office Administration with 1 to 3 years experience working in a human service program setting.

Teacher Assistant (Stepping Stones II)

Dietary Aide – Stepping Stones II Daycare

Title: Dietary Aide

Responsibilities: Position hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15am – 3:15pm (32.50 hours per week). Responsible to clean and maintain kitchen area, store rooms, supplies and equipment in accordance with NYS Health Department and Day Care Regulations and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Regulations. Will assist cook with establishing meal, snack time, special diets of the center, delivery of food to classrooms, and assist with classroom support when needed.
Qualifications: Previous experience in food preparation and food services.

Custodian (Substitute)

Responsibilities: This position provides custodial support to CEO’s Stepping Stones II daycare site. This position will be a temporary position consisting of approximately 6 weeks. This position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the daycare facility by performing duties including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming carpets, and cleaning and restocking restrooms.
Qualifications: A clean, valid New York State Driver’s License and prior custodial experience required. High school equivalency preferred. The chosen candidate will be required to complete standard background clearances, which include fingerprints, New York State Child Abuse clearances, and a physical and TB Test.

Occupational Skills Trainer / Construction Site Assistant (YouthBuild Program)

Title:  Occupational Skills Trainer / Construction Site Assistant

The Commission on Economic Opportunity is seeking a Occupational Skills trainer / Construction site Assistant , to work in their YouthBuild program.  YouthBuild provides at risk youth ages 16-24 the opportunity to obtain their GED, learn job skills and serve their community by building affordable housing.
Responsibilities:  Candidate will assist the Building Trades Manager with the development of a construction plan and schedule, will work with students teaching basic construction skills, and will work with students on identifying areas of interest with regard to future employment. Also responsible to establish ways in which students will obtain job skills in those career paths identified.
Qualifications:  Knowledge of construction skills, valid driver’s license and High School Diploma required. Experience working with at-risk teens and case management is preferred. Prior building trades experience a plus.

Food Pantry Assistant

Responsibilities: The Commission on Economic Opportunity, a not for profit agency, is seeking a Food Pantry Assistant. Position is 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Candidate will be working in a fast paced, high volume local food pantry. Will be responsible to meet with customers to evaluate their needs, enter customer data information into database for tracking purposes, collecting and distributing food to customers, inventory, ordering, and stocking and rotating food on shelves when deliveries are made. Based on customers needs, will makes referrals to other programs and agencies. Works closely with staff and volunteers, directing their activities.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Clean valid drivers license
- the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- previous customer service and excellent interpersonal skills
- proficient computer skills (Microsoft Excel)
